“Should auld acquaintance be forgot”*…

Today I had the privilege of spending two hours with a friend of seven years who is currently conducting research in Oxford. It was an opportunity for her to meet my daughter, who was a very teeny tiny embryo the last time we met, as well as a chance for us to catch up – as much as one can over lunch in a noisy cafĂ© with a baby.

It is special when one is able to meet up with a friend where the conversation just carries on from where it left off last time. For sure, social media (namely Facebook, Skype and email, in this instance) help immensely to keep both sides apprised of the other party’s affairs, but a lasting friendship doesn’t, I believe, need even those assists to be well-cemented and comfortable.
